South Western Interceptor Brighams Creek

South Western Interceptor

Brighams Creek Estuary Crossing

This project involved the installation of 90m of 1050mmØ sewer pipeline. The project is situated in South Auckland and is part of Watercares South Western Interceptor project. This drill shot was completed in less than 2 weeks.

A custom built reamer and stabiliser were used to ensure success. The JT8020 and the mongoose reclaimer were used together for the first time on this project. The reclaimer ensured a very minimal water usage.

The maiden voyage of the maxi-rig on this project resulted in a very successful job. The drill installed 500m of 315mmØ sewer rising main underneath the estuary. Utilising the mud pump, the drill passed through some very hard rock

and pockets of coal! The mongoose reclaimer came into its own here where minimising environmental impacts was key. CDS require all their equipment to be as quiet as possible so here nearby residents weren't disturbed.

Hobsonville Otahuhu East

Hobsonville Branch Sewer

Otahuhu East Rising Main

This project involves the installation of 1.5km of 450mmØ gravity sewer and 700m of 400mmØ rising main through Hobsonville. The gravity portion of this pipeline has been successfully installed at grades as flat as 0.9%.
A specialist paratrak unit was used to install one of the gravity sewer shots where the depths were up to 16m deep. Many variables were challenging to manage, including traffic and close overhead power cables.
Watercare required two siphon pipes installed beneath the estuary in Otahuhu East. CDS installed a 250mmØ pipe and a 200mmØ pipe in two separate 300m long installations underneath the watercourse in tight curves to
achieve the required depth. This project used the JT8020 drill and required a surveyor to survey the rod location from a boat during the pilot bore for the vertical alignment. Drilling meant the sensitive estuary environment was undisturbed.
