CDS' New GD3500 Maxi-Rig Unveiled to Council and Watercare Engineers

CDS recently purchased the Goodeng GD3500 maxi-rig (350T). This is the most powerful horizontal directional drill in NZ, with twice the push and pull force of the largest NZ Maxi-rig. An open day at Brighams Creek gave Engineers an insight into its operation.

Mongoose Reclaimer Used at South Western Interceptor

The 600GPM Mongoose Reclaimer allowed CDS to efficiently install a 90m length of 1050mmOD rising main as part of the South Western Interceptor project for Watercare. The Reclaimer recycled the drilling fluids allowing minimal water and product usage.

Drill Setup Wiseley Road Minimises Impact on Road Users

CDS' JT8020 drill, the mongoose reclaimer and ancilliary equipment was set-up on the side of Wiseley Road. This efficient arrangement of machinery allowed a small footprint, thus minimising impact on local residents, road users and resource exploitation.

Brigham Creek - Drill Installation Beneath the Estuary

The new maxi-rig was used to install a 315mmOD sewer rising main up to 26m deep beneath the Brigham Creek estuary in one 500m long pull. This new technology is environmentally friendly and replaces trenching through mangroves and across estuaries.

CDS New Zealand Ltd specialise in trenchless technology, namely horizontal directional drilling - they have several current contracts within the Auckland region for Watercare and Auckland Council. CDS has been involved in projects throughout the North Island specialising in the installation of large diameter pipelines for sewer, stormwater and water services.

This commitment was acknowledged recently at the Auckland Contractors AGM where they were awarded the top price in the Category A Health and Safety Award 2011. Auditors from the Department of Labour visited CDS work sites and also went through their systems and processes and the award was won on the merits of these audits.
